Fake news has also inspired filmmakers to make movies in which these hoaxes play a central role. In the following, we will be presenting movies that screen fake news as well as the negative effects of social media.

This movie is a thought-provoking documentary in which professionals talk about the mechanisms of the internet and social media. These professionals used to be employees of big companies such as Google, Facebook or Youtube. In the movie, between the interviews, we can see scenes from the life of a family. The creators in these ordinary scenes show us what it means to be addicted to social sites, the spread of fake news and the problems caused by them.

This instructive documentary has topics such as data protection, internet security, digital skills, and fake news. The movie answers a lot of questions, but during and after watching, we may encounter more questions that the film does not answer, forcing us to think about underlying issues. It provides information about the protection of our data, its use and usability, the mechanisms of fake news, manipulation, elections, and democracy. It is mainly about the Facebook – Cambridge Analytica data scandal.

4. After Truth: Disinformation and the Cost of Fake News


In the age of social media, the fact-finding documentary examines the growing phenomenon of false news in the United States. The movie studies the impact of misinformation, conspiracy theories, and false news have on citizens. It revolves around some of the more significant fake news of recent years that have had real consequences, including the Pizzagate case, disinformation campaigns affecting the 2016 presidential election, and Jade Helm’s conspiracy theory.

The films presented above are all very instructive and useful as they try to open people’s eyes with their messages. Although they are documentaries, they are very eye-catching due to the interesting stories they contain. So if any movie seems sympathetic, we recommend watching it.
